Hon: Jack Nyanungo

Jack Nyanungo Ranguma, also known as JR, is a Kenyan politician and was the first Governor of Kisumu County, Kenya. He was elected on 6 March 2013.[1]

History

Educational background

Jack Ranguma has a Master of Science (International Accounting and Management Information Systems) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Professional career

Prior to entering politics Jack Ranguma had worked as an accountant for close to 30 years. In 1979, Jack Ranguma was appointed Audit Manager in charge of a large quasi-government n audit portfolio by BDO International. he was promoted to Partner in charge of audit services in 1989, and served as Partner and Head of Financial and Management Consultancy Services between 1991-2001. in 2002 he was appointed Commissioner of Income Tax, and later Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, Kenya Revenue Authority. In 2008 he became Senior Policy Advisor, Tax Justice Network Africa, a pan-African organization.

Hon . Salim Mvurya, Salim Mvurya Mgala

Salim Mvurya, Salim Mvurya Mgala or Mvurya Salim Mgalla (born 1970) is a Kenyan politician. He became the first governor of Kwale County, Kenya after winning in the 2013 March elections. He vied on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket.[1]



 

 

Education



Salim Mvurya was born at Kadzandani Village, Mwatate Location, Kasemeni Division, Kinango District of Kwale County. He went to Mavirivirini Primary School in 1979 then Mpeketoni Secondary School from 1987 to 1990. He then proceeded to Egerton University for his first degree and graduated with Bachelors in Agri-Business Management in 1996. He has a Masters Degree in Participation, Power and Social Change from the Institute of Development Studies, in England, UK.[2] He also has further certificates in NGO management from MS-TCDC in Arusha, Tanzania. Mvurya possesses strong leadership and management skills backed by 17 years of development experience.[3]

Career

Salim Mvurya has 17 years of social Development and leadership experience. In the year 2008, he had an opportunity to be the Acting Country Director for Plan Kenya. Other organizations he has worked for include Aga Khan Foundation and Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development (an institute of Egerton University). His working experience has enabled him to gain experiences in staff management, program management, resource mobilization and fundraising, operational management, financial management as well as influencing policy at local, national and international level. Over the years he has designed and implemented development programs in Education, Health, Livelihoods, Child Protection and Democratic Governance centered on citizens participation in decision making processes and policy advocacy. Some of the programs he implemented were funded by DFID, USAID, Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Netherlands and Finland, and NORAD, Norway. Governor Mvurya emphasizes that Kwale has enormous resources and heis already applying his Development and Management experience and is leading a change process that will give the citizens of Kwale County an opportunity to benefit from socio-economic development[4]

Amason Kingi Jeffah is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to represent the Magarini Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007.[1]

HON.ALFRED MUTUA

Dr Alfred Nganga Mutua (born 22 August 1970) was the 1st Official Kenyan Government Spokesperson and Public Communications Secretary.[1] He resigned in September 2012 to vie for the position of Governor for Machakos. He went on to win the election with 71% of the vote.
He was born in Masii, Machakos County and is married with several children. He has lived, studied and worked in Kenya, USA, Australia and the United Arab Emirates and has been a business man, lecturer, civil servant and politician

Education
He was educated at Dagoretti High School (O level) and at Jamhuri High School (A level). He obtained his BA in Journalism from Whitworth College in the United States and his MSc in Communication from Eastern Washington University. He received his doctorate in communication and media from the University of Western Sydney in Australia

 Political career
Dr. Mutua became the first governor of Machakos County, which is one of the counties established under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and was sworn on 27 March 2013.
He was elected on a Wiper Democratic Party ticket with 71% of the total vote.

Professional career

Author
Dr. Mutua is the author of a self-help book, How To Be Rich in Africa & other secrets of survival. Published in 2010, the book gives insight into various ways of being a successful investor in Africa.
He is also the owner of a lifestyle magazine titled “Passion Magazine” which covers various topical issues including food, fashion spread, beauty, health & finance.
Lecturer
Having sharpened his teeth through teaching Sunday school at his local church when he was a young man, Dr. Mutua went on to become a lecturer and assistant professor in his illustrious career. He was a lecturer at Daystar University in Kenya, and also an Assistant Professor at Zayed University in Dubai.
Journalist

In a career spanning 15 years Dr. Mutua was a foreign correspondent and a local journalist in Kenya's media industry. He is world-renowned for his popular travel articles under the title of Msafiri. These articles ran in several newspapers and magazines.
In an exclusive and record making interview, Dr. Mutua was the first journalist to interview the new president of Zaire/Congo in the 90s Mr. Joseph Kabila soon after he took over the country following his father's assassination (while working for SBS Television of Australia).
Among the media houses that have published his articles are Kenya Airways inflight magazine – Msafiri, The Daily Nation, East African Standard, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Billings Gazette, Spokesman Review, The Spokane African-American Voice (where he served as the founding Editor), Valley News-Herald and The East African.

Movie director and producer
During his illustrious career, Dr. Mutua has even been involved in movie making, writing and producing various productions. One of his notable films was his movie, "And the Desert Smiled" (2004), which was launched by U.A.E's H.E. Sheikh Nahavan. He also produced a documentary titled “An African in America” (1997) and an award winning documentary for UNIV titled “Housing As A Human Right Issue” (1998).
Dr. Mutua also runs a production company Golden Dreams Company Ltd (GDC), which he set up at the age of 21. GDC produced Kenya's first action TV series, the Cobra Squad as well as the family show, Beba Beba. Cobra Squad was aired not only in Kenya.
Through GDC, Dr. Mutua also launched the East Africa Music Awards (EAMAs) in 2011.

Civil servant

Government spokesman and public communications secretary

Dr. Mutua was appointed the first official government spokesperson of Kenya on June 2004. He served in that capacity until 3 September 2012.
He was also the public communications secretary and head of the Office of Public Communications in the Office of the President.
Under his stewardship in this office, Dr. Mutua is credited with establishing a public campaign to promote patriotism, Najivunia Kuwa Mkenya.
Dr. Mutua was also mandated with a couple of presidential tasks, among the notable ones was to chair a task force that was charged with ensuring that Mombasa was ready for the 2007 IAAF athletics championships held in Mombasa.

His Excellency Ali Hassan Joho

Hassan Ali Joho (Arabic: حسن علي جوهو‎) is a Kenyan politician affiliated to the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007.[1] On 4 March 2013, during the general election, Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. [2]

Political career

Joho joined active politics in the year 2004, and became the Kisauni party chairman for the Liberal Democratic Party between 2006-2007. It was not until 2007 General Election, when he was overwhelmingly elected as the Kisauni parliamentary member through ODM in 2007. He was elected as Member of Parliament for Kisauni constituency and the Assistant Minister for Transport. In 4 March 2013 he was elected as Governor of Mombasa.[3]

2013 Governor Election

Joho campaigned to be elected as first Governor of Mombasa during the election held on 4 March 2013. He emerged the winner and was sworn in as governor on 27 March.
He won by 132,583 votes, his closest rival Mr Shahbal, who was second with 94,905 votes. Shabal went to court alleging rigging, but his petition was denied.[4] He later went to court to block swearing in of the winner.

Joho's manifesto stipulated the tasks he intends to achieve in his governorship. They are fishing, tourism, manufacturing, health and sanitation, solid waste management, roads and housing, among others.
